The cat is out of the blog
Ed reveals what I've been dying to tell people for a while: Lotus911 is a Notes 8 Design Partner. Which means I've been playing with "Hannover" for a bit over a month now. It's actually my primary Notes client for standard email at work.
Obviously, I'm still under my NDA about the product itself, so don't start asking me a million questions about how every feature works. I've been trying (not entirely successfully) to pour feedback to IBM on the good, the bad and the ugly.
Here's what I can say about it:
a) on a machine with 1.5Ghz & 1GB of RAM, I'm not seeing significant performance issues inside the Eclipse wrapper.
b) I've also installed the direct Windows executable version. Yes, Ed was not full of crap -- it's just one package to install either version.
c) I upgraded my production mail template on a Domino 7 server to the 8 template and access it from several different versions. No problems at all.
Hopefully, as IBM reveals more and more stuff in public about it, I can talk more openly about my own experiences. I'll have to go back and look at all of Mary Beth's entries to see what I can mention. Watch this space.
