What was that number?

Ed doesn't wanna come out and say it, but Chris Byrne tracks it down.

Q4 2005 -> Q4 2006 growth for Lotus Software?  30%

THIRTY PERCENT!!

30% growth while competing against Microsoft.  In a saturated market.

People, stop saying Lotus marketing sucks.  There's obviously something good going on.  Maybe it's Ed.  Maybe it's the ads.  Maybe it's all the IBM crew.  Or maybe CODE TALKS.  And the competition is as quiet as a graveyard.

Maybe.

But whatever it is, that's a great scorecard.  And even when I complain about how IBM is shooting themselves in the foot, they're clearly doing some good stuff here!

Plus, I bet that more that a single percentage point was helped by what people get at OpenNTF.org.  No, I can't back it up.  I just dare you to argue with me.    But if you think I'm right... what does that work out to in absolute dollars?

1 - @6 I agree. There are a lot of really great things going on with Lotus and Notes. We play into the SMB market as well, and I hope to see some kind of focus on what would help folks buy a Lotus (I would assume N/D) solution over Sharepoint 2007.

Looking forward to this week!

2 - NTF,

I would say 3 percent Emoticon

3 - Scott, Portal was incorporated into Lotus years ago.

4 - Fair, Scott, and unfortunately my hands are tied on being able to detail out the individual products. Which is unfortunate because if I could, there would be no spoiling, just fun. Emoticon

5 - Far be it from me to argue with my boss, but...

Are you telling me that PORTAL switching divisions lead to a 1/3 growth rate for a group with 120 million users? That is sold into the maintenance cycle of... what... 20 million users?

If it did, well, that's cause for celebration too. That's a "web 2.0" growth rate.

6 - I'm not a BP or consultant, just a corporate developer, and I agree that the lack of focus on the real SMB market is hurting Lotus and IBM. I've talked about that a lot, though.

7 - I am glad it is growing. I do not know how accurate the information is but only Ed and IBM knows that. I believe Notes is finally recovering from the past neglect and lack of commitment by IBM. (I know this statement will generate a big thread when I say this but that is how a number of Business Partners who focus on Domino and Notes feels). Unfortunately, it takes time to go down and it takes the same amount or more time to recover. I truely believe the recover has started. I sense that there are good things to come and there will be a resurgence of Notes in the come years. If we as Partners and IBM can work together and tackle Sharepoint with a workable Notes/Domino solution I think things will move forward faster. Ed, I personally wish IBM would put more effort in marketing Notes and Domino to the SMB market (TRUE SMB). It is a huge untap market for IBM that would increase the growth of Notes and Domino. Off course, I am personally biased since that one of the markets that we focus on.
