Looks like someone thought that was a good strategy. They seem to have copied the idea.
I know The Radicati Group is still in business, in spite of such gems as predicting that corporate blogging would fade away. But I never hear about them any more, and they seem far less relevant than in 2004.
So a note to The Burton Group: just start eating your crow now. Arguing the point is only going to make you look like you're more in bed with Redmond.
