Name dropping

Not bad for a 1.0 that's technically still beta, huh?
I love seeing who's on the bleedyellow IM server.  It's a virtual Lotusphere.  And it makes me think that we should get the Advanced features rolling in the not-too-distant future so we can get the persistent rooms.  I used to use IRC channels in my gaming days, and they're a great way to keep current on topical matters.

If you didn't gather from the podcast, when you activate a bleedyellow.com account, you can then login into im.bleedyellow.com through Sametime (whether the Notes integrated version or the standalong version -- or even the Trillian plug-in!)  All you need is port 1533 comms.

Just remember that your user name is your EMAIL ADDRESS.  A few people have been trying to use a more standard shortname model, but all the Connections components authenticate against email address.

UPDATE:  Wait a minute... brainstorm.... what would people think about scheduling virtual Lotusphere sessions using Sametime on Bleedyellow?  There's no technical reason why we couldn't invite John Head to give his presentation on Symphony integration, or Bob Balaban on Xpages, or maybe even new content... like Mitch Cohen & Chris Whisonant giving a virtual seminar on Connections implementation?  Maybe Mac Guidera would want to participate as well?

Why NOT just have a persistent virtual Lotusphere going?  If we had permanent rooms, they really would be like session rooms, wouldn't they?

Thoughts?  Feedback please!!!

1 - @Don - we did persistent chat rooms for { Link } using straight Sametime. Advanced is not a requirement for that part. Advanced would be overkill if that is all it is used for.

How about a Sametime Gateway so we can just connect ours to bleedyellow Emoticon

now if I can just remember what email address I used to register...since Chris Miller is taken I presume I did.

Is there any way to reset or email it? Cant find a link

2 - Great idea! The Lotus Greenhouse team kicked of a Webcast series last week, to share the latest on the technologies we host there. Cool to see this extended by the Partner/Customer community.

3 - FWIW, the podcast Nathan is referring to is here: { Link }

-Devin.

4 - I second the call for port 80 as my employer is um, rather restrictive as well.

5 - "or even the Trillian plug-in!"

Pidgin (used to be Gaim) also supports Sametime out of the box, and runs on Linux/Win Emoticon

Interesting thought about virtual sessions, I'd be willing to entertain the idea.

6 - Great idea, but like others, I can't connect to port 1533. Any chance you could enable port 80 on im.bleedyellow.com?

7 - Excellent idea, one which could benefit most everyone.

8 - "or even the Trillian plug-in!"

It looks like the plug-in only works for the Trillian "Pro" edition... Hope this isn't the case; regardless Sametime is working just fine.

Once again, great idea and thank you!

9 - "All you need is port 1533 comms."

And you'd think that would be simple, wouldn't you? *sigh* My employer is increasingly unreasonable about the silliest things...

At least if the rooms are persistent, I could check them out from home. Great stuff, Nathan.

10 - Hmmm. Can we name them things like "Macaw 1", "Hemisphere 1-2", "Y&B Salon V", or "Kimonos -right side"? Emoticon

-Devin.

11 - Nathan, I would love to hear some of the Lotusphere presentations via bleedyellow "virtual" Lotusphere. That would be a huge opportunity for those of us that, for whatever reason, couldn't be a Lotusphere this year.

12 - Good idea, Nathan. I've never seen a persistent chat room but it sounds really useful.

@4: Cool! I'll have to check that out when I get home.

@5: I'm in the same boat. Even if I could figure out how to get through the proxy, I think it would end up being a Really Bad Idea.

@6: Good idea about the "next live event" message.

13 - I'd have to see what "rooms" look like but if they can at least serve as a central place to download slides and samples, while displaying something about "next live show scheduled for <date/time>", that might work.

14 - @2 - I can't think of a single reason why we couldn't.

15 - Nathan.. for it to be really like LS or ILUG esque you need beer.. please impliement the @beverage("beer";"guinness";"pint") undocumented command new for V8.0.01..
