Absolutely Insane

Careful followers of OpenNTF.org will have noticed that the Technical Committee has posted the recordings of the Steering Committee calls.  I know that no one has listened to all these yet.  How do I know?  Because there's one that's redacted, and has about 3 minutes of silence in the middle of it where John and I introduced something to the SC without clearance.  And I'm quite sure that if anyone had listened to the recordings, they would be asking a lot of questions about it.

That's perfectly okay, of course, because frankly, it's 5 hours of incredibly boring stuff.  And I'm pretty sure no one wants to hear that much of my voice anyway.

However, today, we voted on and got clearance to discuss the part that was redacted from the earlier meeting; an idea that's so outrageously awesomely insanely kick ass, that if you've ever glanced at Domino Designer, you're going to flip.

I'm not going to tell you what it is here.  You need to watch for the announcement on the OpenNTF.org site.  Note: There's no guarantees that it WILL happen.  It's just a proposal.  But even the thought of it makes me as giddy as a schoolboy.

1 - @1 - It's better than that. Emoticon

@2 - Yeah, I know it's evil of me. But keep your eye on the homepage. I think it'll put me back in your good graces soon enough.

2 - @Nathan:- I take back my take back that you are actually a nice guy!!! Damn nasty, well maybe your enthusiasm will get you off the hook, this time;_)

3 - You are such a tease! Could it be an open source Domino Designer with even more functions than the one IBM provides? Using DXL to import/export elements, perhaps?

4 - @1 I think we should all set out expectations that the Notes and Domino products themselves, not talking about the templates, will never be open source. There is too much licensed and third-party code in there for IBM to do that. OpenNTF.org's job is not to create new tools like another Designer, but to grow the development community. This is about the first step in growing OpenNTF.org to be the goto place for developers. I am super excited about it - but its just the first baby step of a major journey to make it happen.

5 - @19 - That is a really excellent idea.

OpenNTF remixes. Emoticon

6 - From the little I have heard, the only way to improve them substantially would be with a Phil Spector-type Wall of Sound or perhaps a live-concert Ramones recording.

7 - @19 @20 - Like this? { Link }

(btw, the vid was made seventeen years ago)

8 - @10 - You're in the ball park. Emoticon

9 - Maybe if they processed the recording through Auto-Tune. And put a groove under it. That would be cool.

10 - @16 - Hrmm... well that's a bit scary.

In case you're listening to them in order, they get better. Emoticon

11 - @15. Illuminating is always good. Emoticon

12 - I " Hope " it something to do with Adobe Flex that would be so Awesome. Emoticon

13 - I think I just outed myself as the only person that actually listens to these things. And very illuminating they are too.

14 - @9 - 4 realz!???! Don't I feel stupid! Emoticon

Good thing it doesn't matter anymore.

15 - A hint is up there now Emoticon and no @11 this has nothing to do with Flex. This is bigger than that

16 - @14 - I hope in a good way!

17 - @7 Tim - there is no way it will happen. OS/2 has been dead for years and its still not open source.

18 - I really like Karl-Henry Martinsson's Idea.

19 - The minutes are posted. { Link } Let's see how long until people parse out the most important bit of that. Emoticon

20 - Hey folks - just waiting for an approval on a comment from a Third Party before we post the news. Time zones are not our friends

21 - "I know that no one has listened to all these yet."

Another give away would be that they would have noticed that the non-redacted version is also in the zip file.

22 - A one-click "Publish my app to the big bad cloud" button?

23 - If this relates to hosting projects at OpenNTF then that really rocks, it would be a great way of showing pre-release versions of the software, and getting some external testing undertaken.
