Awesome news
Over at Lotusgeek, there's some great news from Bob Balaban, who's been moved into a new position as Programming Services Architect. The title and role are intentionally nebulous, but from what I can tell, he's basically got my dream job: figure out how to solve every issue people have with Notes/Domino as a development platform and describe how to fix it. This is really excellent news, because 1) they NEED someone doing that; 2) Bob has strong ties to the dev community at large; and 3) Bob's an experienced Loti, so hopefully he won't be busy figuring out how to work the system as much as an outsider would.
Now I expect that Bob is going to quickly see public lists about everyone pet peeves. "I want metrics in pixels," "I want a custom class browser in Lotuscript," "I want column header formulas instead of text." And these will likely all be great suggestions. Allow me, however, to encourage folks to think bigger. Document your pet peeves of course, but think about how you could make Domino a transformative platform again. If I can be permitted some immodesty (like I need your permission!) the idea several years ago of Domino as an AJAX modelling engine is an example of the scope of thinking I'm talking about. Don't think about what would make your clicking a little easier -- think about what would make the nature of your job totally different.
Good luck! (And comments disabled because they need to go on ROCKY'S site, not mine!)
