w00t!

Lotus911 has won the IBM Lotus Award for Best Philanthropy Award - Back in 2008.

The AngelFlight Mission Control system that we put together is pretty darned cool.  It coordinates flight plans for private pilots to take sick kids for urgent medical care in locations they can't otherwise reach.  The system got particularly put under the gun in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, when FEMA requested assistance in moving medical supplies and equipment.

It's cool stuff for a cool purpose.  I have to confess that I haven't personally been involved in any of it (this man has), but Lotus911 has been building and supporting that system for several years now, and it's great to get some recognition around it.

I have been personally involved in some other projects that are submitted for some other awards.  We'll see how that goes.

Comments

1 - I'm amazed everyday day when I see it!! :) It's like riding a different animal on a merry-go-round each time!

2 - Im sure your submissions will exceed everyone's expectations....maybe even myself Emoticon

3 - Thanks for the plug. I was happy to be a part of it. (Yay for Us!) Emoticon

4 - Congratulations to Lotus911. It's fantastic to see this kind of solution out there.

5 - Neal Boortz is an Angel Flight pilot and it is his favorite charity. As a result he talks about it a lot when he's on the air. So at least people in Atlanta will know what Angel Flight is when you list this project in lotus911 pr stuff. Great win!

6 - I posted this on Mike's blog, but I'll repeat it here.

Mike, I want to personally thank you for the work you are doing. In 2003 my mother was transported by AngelFlight East from Charlotte, NC to Tampa, FL. She was visiting relatives in Charlotte when she suffered an aortic dissection and a stroke. She spent six weeks in a hospital before she was stable enough to travel, and it took another three weeks to coordinate transportation to a hospital closer to where she lived.

I know Lotus911 didn't start working with AngelFlight until 2005 so your solution wasn't in place to help my mother, but I do want to thank you personally for enabling them to do their job better.
